Kona Coffee
Forbes: “Top 10 Coffees in the World”

BEST COFFEE: KOA PLANTATION Saying you’ve had a bad cup of Kona coffee is like saying you’ve seen snow in the Caribbean. This stuff is wonderfully smooth and its lack of a bitter aftertaste makes you think nothing of having that second cup…or third. Just don’t get fooled into buying “Kona blends” that sometimes combine the price tag of the real thing with less than stellar-quality beans from other sources. The genuine article is grown on the Big Island, home of volcanic soil, high elevation and abundant morning sunshine. For the freshest coffee experiences, order from the Koa Plantation in Captain Cook; it’s a family-run operation, situated on the leeward side of Mauna Loa, that will ship its peaberry, estate-or prime-grade beans to you in half-pound, pound or five-pound bags of “Baba’s Beans.” An order placed from the East Coast on a recent Friday afternoon arrived at its caffeine-deprived owner’s desk the following Monday morning via priority FedEx. Decaf is available—but why? Koa Plantation

Kona Coffee and the Kona Belt

Pure Kona Coffee comes from the Kona Coffee Belt, a stretch of land about 1 mile wide by 30 miles long. According to state regulations, only coffee grown in the Kona Belt can be called Kona Coffee. Coffee grown outside the Kona Belt is Hawaiian, but not Kona Coffee. Get 100% Kona Coffee here

How Fresh is Your Coffee?

Did you know coffee has a shelf life? Problem is, it’s not like milk. Old coffee won’t make you sick, it just doesn’t taste as good. Most of the coffee on your grocer’s shelf is far past it’s shelf life. Freshness is why the Koacoffee roast kona coffee when you order it. You’ll taste the difference, and that’s a promise!

The Kona Blend Controversy

Legally, a coffee merchant can mix 10% Kona beans with 90% low quality (cheap) coffee that’s not from Hawaii and call it “Kona Blend.” Which means most Kona Blends are more “not Kona” than Kona. Shocking? As Forbes said, “Don’t be fooled by Kona Blends. Koa Plantation is the real thing.”

100% pure Kona Coffee is roasted to order and packaged in protective foil bags still warm from the roaster. When you open a bag of Koa coffee, you’ll experience the fresh taste and aroma the prize winning Kona coffee is known for.

Environmentally Friendly Kona Coffee!
In 2002, Koacoffee became the first Kona coffee farm in Kona, Hawaii to use a revolutionary wet-processing system that is ecologically and environmentally efficient. This contributes to the many awards the Kona Coffee wins.

Kona coffee

Coffee Review by Sweet Maria’s
Koa Plantation is the Artukovich family farm, at 2,500 feet near the small town of Captain Cook, on the slopes of Mauna Loa volcano, on the Big Island. The farm is unique because they process all their own coffee from start to finish, and have a unique, ecologically efficient wet -processing coffee system.
It’s also notable that they store all their parchment coffee in a climate-controlled warehouse until it is ready to dry-mill, and ship. The thing that impresses me most about this cup is the outstanding body. It’s really quite intense, and after a proper resting (48 hours) it really comes out. It has that soft, sweet “island taste profile”, and despite my skepticism about all our customers who use their pricey Kona in espresso, I must say this makes an awesome shot! I kept the roast at a City + for cupping, and enjoyed the soft nuttiness in the cup, and maple syrup undertones. But taking it a bit darker to a few snaps into second, the milk-chocolate qualities in the cup really emerged, along with a mild black licorice flavor, and gave the taste profile a little more liveliness.

TIP! If you like to brew your own coffee, try stirring it in the pot just after brewing. Quickly stirring the coffee will bring out its aroma and flavor.

What makes a great cup of coffee? Well, everyone has different tastes, so it’s good to know all of your options before you settle down to make your next cup. Read on for better ideas on making great coffee.

TIP! If you like iced coffee, brew a strong pot in the evening and leave it in the fridge. This will give you flavorful iced coffee rather than a brew watered down with ice cubes.

If brewing coffee is something you like doing, think about stirring your finished pot of coffee. Just a couple quick stirs will ensure the brew is more consistent. You’ll notice how much better the coffee tastes when it’s time to drink.

TIP! Invest in a basic coffee grinder. Waiting to grind beans until you are about to brew allows the flavorful coffee oils to remain.

When you have coffee beans that are whole you should never grind them and keep them you should brew it right way. Beans start to lose flavor immediately after being ground. Grinding it ahead of time will cause the coffee to be much weaker.

TIP! If you purchase coffee beans in bulk, you must protect them. You do not want your beans to suffer from heat and light.

Always be careful about the kind of water you will use when you are making coffee. Poor tap water can hurt the taste and feel of your coffee. Make sure there is a mineral count in the water as well. Without trace minerals in the water, the brewed coffee might taste rather bitter.

TIP! When you shop for a personal coffee grinder, try getting one with a conical or flat grinding burrs. The reason for this is that the heat generated will be less.

Coffee comes in a wide variety of choices. Some people like more mild flavors; others like a full dark roast. You can also get flavored coffees such as hazelnut or raspberry. Most folks though just use creamer for added flavor instead of brewing flavored coffee.

TIP! You should buy coffee that is ethical, consider getting some fair trade coffee beans. Although the cost is a bit higher for this kind of coffee, the taste is well worth the extra expense.

In order to increase the flavor of your coffee, buy a French press. The purpose of this press is to produce more oil from your coffee beans. If you use a regular coffee pot, the oil might soak into the filter.

TIP! If you want to reduce the amount of caffeine you drink, there’s no need to quit all at once. You can make “semi-coffee” through a brew that is ground with equal parts decaf and standard beans.

Does your coffee not taste as good as what you find in a coffee shop? It may simply be a matter of increasing the amount of coffee grounds you use. Most coffeehouses use the ratio of 2 tablespoons coffee to 6 ounces of water. Experiment with ratios and quantities until you find the perfect flavor and keep in mind that you might have to adapt the ratio to the blend you are using.

TIP! To make your coffee have a mix of tastes, buy creamers or syrups to pour in after the brewing is done. This will prevent you from messing up your machine with a bunch of different flavors.

If you make your own iced coffee, avoid just pouring hot coffee over ice. This results in watery coffee. You should cool it down in the freezer first. After they are frozen, put them in a cup and let them melt.

TIP! Are you a fan of artificial sweeteners in coffee? Some artificial sweeteners can actually bog down the flavor of coffee with chemicals. Attempt black coffee, or use a bit of raw sugar to give your coffee better flavor.

If you are a parent whose children do not permit leisurely coffee drinking at home, consider finding the closest drive-through cafe. Strap your child into the car seat, then head off to buy a cup of coffee to enjoy on your drive home.

Warm Milk

TIP! Have your friends or family members recommend coffee to you. The people you know may have tried a blend of coffee that you have not.

Are you interested in steering clear of sugar when drinking coffee, but still crave sweetness? Consider adding warm milk to your drink. Naturally sweet warm milk is a great replacement for cream. Utilizing warm milk in your coffee is much healthier than using sugar and cream.

TIP! Choose a coffee maker that can do multiple things. This small appliance can do more than make your coffee.

Try adding sweeteners and flavorings to enhance your coffee. Brown sugar is something different to use instead of regular white sugar. Don’t be afraid to explore flavorings like nutmeg, cinnamon or cocoa. Liquid flavorings are another delicious option. Instead of milk, you can try flavored rice, almond and soy milks.

TIP! Do you like to put milk in coffee? There are several ways to put milk in coffee. Cold milk is a common choice.

You should now have a better idea of how to liven up your cup of coffee. You may want to try many methods. Maybe you already drink coffee, but just want to try different things. Keep these tips in mind to make the next great brew in your life.
